About Us

Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen & Community Outreach is a community-driven organisation based in Mount Pleasant, Hermanus, South Africa. Founded out of love and a deep sense of purpose, we are dedicated to uplifting those in need by providing daily meals, essential supplies, and unwavering support to families and individuals facing hardship.

Daily Cooked Meals

Every day, we prepare and serve hot, nourishing meals to anyone who is hungry. No questions asked, no conditions set — just a warm plate and a warm welcome.

Food Parcels

We distribute food parcels to families in need, providing essential groceries and staples to help them get through the week with dignity and sustenance.

Clothing Distribution

Every week, we collect and share clothing with community members who need it most, ensuring everyone has access to clean, decent clothes.

School Supplies

We help children with school books, uniforms, and essential educational materials so that every child can attend school with confidence and pride.

Care Parcels

For community members who are ill or bedridden, we prepare care parcels with food, hygiene products, and essentials to bring comfort during difficult times.

Community Outreach

Beyond meals, we connect with our community through health awareness campaigns, home visits, and special programmes that bring people together and foster hope.

Meet Our Founder

Maria Pieters - Founder of Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen

Maria Pieters

My name is Maria Pieters. I am the founder and cook at my charity, Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen and Community Outreach. I started cooking for the poor and the needy 9 years ago because I saw the need for people to sustain themselves and their families. Because of the high unemployment rate in my community, so many families struggle to provide a meal, so I took it upon myself, with the help of the public, to start cooking food and sharing a cooked meal to those in need.

I also help children with school books and uniforms. Every week, I share clothes that I collect with the needy. Every Easter, the children get an Easter egg and an outing to the beach with meals included.

I also celebrate Women's Day and spread breast cancer awareness amongst the locals. I help people regardless of race, gender, or religious status. Everyone who is hungry can come and get a meal, every day at my house.

Community Events & Celebrations

Throughout the year, we host special events and celebrations for underprivileged children and adults in our community. These events bring joy, create lasting memories, and remind everyone that they are valued and loved.

🎁 Easter

Easter Celebrations

Easter is one of the most cherished events on our calendar. We organise a full day of joy and celebration for the children and families in our community.

  • Every child receives an Easter egg to enjoy
  • A special outing to the beach with transport arranged for all
  • Hot meals are provided throughout the day, including packed lunches for the trip
  • Games, activities, and quality family time by the seaside
  • Special Easter food parcels for families to take home

For many of our children, this is their only opportunity to visit the beach each year, making it a truly magical and unforgettable experience.

Christmas is a time of warmth, generosity, and togetherness. We pull out all the stops to ensure that no one in our community feels forgotten during the festive season.

  • Traditional dishes from various South African cultures are prepared and shared
  • Cultural storytelling, music, and activities for all ages

Through food and fellowship, we celebrate what makes each of us unique while honouring what brings us all together.

🍀 Health Awareness

Breast Cancer Awareness — October

Every October, we join the global movement to raise awareness about breast cancer in our community, ensuring that vital health information reaches everyone.

  • Community awareness sessions about breast cancer signs, symptoms, and prevention
  • Information on early detection and the importance of regular check-ups
  • Partnerships with local health organisations and clinics
  • Distribution of educational materials in accessible formats
  • Support and guidance for affected community members and their families

Knowledge is power, and by spreading awareness, we help protect the health and wellbeing of the women in our community.
